When you arrive, you'll be taken to our private waxing area where you'll be asked to remove your clothes from the waist down. You'll lie on your back on a table covered with clean paper or sheets, with your legs down or your knees up, as you would in the Gynecologist's office. Your Esthetician will know you at least as intimately as your Gynecologist. Your best defense is to appear as though you think it's as normal as your Esthetician does.
To begin, the Esthetician will dip a waxing stick into a pot of warm wax and then spread it onto your skin & hair. We use hard wax for the least amount of discomfort. As the wax cools, it basically “shrink-wraps" each hair. Once the wax has hardened, it is then pulled out from the root. The procedure can definitely be painful the first time, but gets less so with subsequent waxing. Most likely, your Esthetician will remove stray hairs with a set of tweezers.
As your esthetician moves closer to the hair around and in your labia majora, you'll need to adjust your body position in order for your esthetician to reach your most intimate spots. We have found that the most comfortable and less painful way to accomplish this task is for you to be on your elbows and knees. While it may be awkward at first, you’ll find this the more pleasant alternative to putting your knees by your ears.

While waxing, it's best to pull the skin tight, so you may be asked to help stabilize an area with your hand, especially towards the middle of the labia where there's no firm bone or muscle underneath. Waxing usually starts in the front & moves toward the back.
If you would prefer not to have certain regions waxed, just say, "No, thank you." How closely you trim, shave or wax your pubic hair is a personal preference. You should do whatever makes you comfortable, whether it's an apple-smooth look or a more natural look. Of course, at this point, why not end up perfectly smooth?
What should I do to prepare for my visit?
You should arrive “freshened up” or if there isn’t time, we provide moistened “towelettes” for your convenience.
How long should my hair be?
Hair growth should be at least 1/4" but not longer than 1/2" (about 2 week’s growth) for the most effective waxing. Hair should be carefully trimmed if necessary. It should be free from oils and lotion to make hair removal easier.
So how does it differ from a regular bikini wax?
Basically, with the Brazilian, hair is removed in the front, back & everything in between. Most of the time a 'landing strip' is left in the front, but some clients opt for everything removed. A Bikini Wax on the other hand, the hair is removed in the Bikini line only.
What are the possible side effects of waxing and how can they be minimized?
- Although we can not predict or guarantee who may react, most clients do not experience reactions beyond redness and minor irritation. Hair may break at the root during waxing, causing some hairs to grow out faster. Please follow these guidelines to minimize irritation and possible break outs.
- Avoid the sun immediately after waxing and please wear sun screen; recently waxed areas are prone to hyperpigmentation (permanent darkening of the skin) if exposed to the sun.
- Avoid heavy exercise for at least 24 hours after waxing.
- Avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heated sources for at least 48 hours.
- Do not use exfoliating products (AHAs, scrubs, etc) and loofas for at least 24 hours after waxing as they might further irritate your skin.
- Avoid tight clothing after waxing, especially in the waxed areas. Tight clothing may result in irritation and ingrown hairs.
- Regular exfoliation may be helpful to remove dead skin so your hairs can get out above the surface of the pores and not become ingrown.
- Routine waxing helps the skin get accustomed to the procedure and may minimize irritation.
- Some people will experience a rash after waxing. It is not a break out and will last under a week. If this happens, apply Polysporin (NOT Neosporin) at least once a day for 3 days.
- An annoying consequence of shaving and waxing -- occur when a hair curls into the skin and grows in the wrong direction, resulting in a red, irritated bump that can become infected. To help avoid ingrown hairs, I recommend using the loofah 24 hours after waxing. It helps pop the hair out of your skin to keep the skin healthy.
The benefits to Brazilian waxing?
You'll feel all clean and shiny, and you'll be slick during intercourse. The results will last anywhere from ten days to three weeks, with no maintenance, and there's no shave that can get you this smooth. In fact, that's the biggest benefit -- no more shaving! For me, a Brazilian wax is the way to go. A little painful, yes, but the results are well worth it. You eventually get used to the discomfort, and once you do you'll never need to prop that leg up in the shower again. You'll be happy. Your partner will be happy. It'll be a smooth experience.
What are the drawbacks to Brazilian waxing?
You may still experience red bumps and ingrown hairs, just like with shaving. However, regular use of a loofah sponge will eliminate dead skin that prevents the now-weakened hair to get to the surface of the skin. Additionally, you have to go ten to fourteen days between wax jobs, so you'll have a period of time with stubble.
